Spider-Man Auction
October 11, 2007 | 12:52 PM

Dear Friends,

Hope you are doing well and have been safe and healthy since last time we spoke.

I just wanted to take a quick moment and give you a heads-up in regard to an exciting and unique auction that we will be launching October 15th in conjunction with the October 30th release of "Spider-Man 3" on DVD and Blu-ray High-Def

As we have done previously for "Spider-Man" and "Spider-Man 2", we will be auctioning some of the incredible props, amazing wardrobe and the always popular framed Spider-Man costume pieces used in "Spider-Man 3". However, we dug a little deeper into our archives and found some additional items that are extremely rare indeed.

As discussed in "The Spider-Man Chronicles: The Art and Making of Spider-Man3", to get the color, texture and musculature patterns on the Spidey suit for the first two films, over 80 separate screen prints were implemented, one on top of the other, until the final product was completed. We managed to save 15 of the screens used to make the original "Spider-Man" suit, 11 of which Sam has signed. These eleven signed screens, each one-of-a-kind items, have been added to the auction.

Another very rare item was unearthed from the "Spider-Man 2" archives. When we filmed what we referred to as "The Final Battle" in Doc Ock's lair, we had to make both a full-scale fusion machine and two miniature quarter-scale models. One of these rare models needs to remain in Sony archives, but the other we are including in this auction. If you are interested please keep one thing in mind - even at quarter scale, this is a massive item that weighs hundreds of pounds, but I can confidently say it has to be one of the coolest pieces of memorabilia we have ever placed in a "Spider-Man" auction. A picture, measurements and shipping details will accompany the item online.

Additionally, John Frazier, our special effects supervisor who won the Academy Award for his work on "Spider-Man 2," has given us a dozen "hoodies". Although these are not one-of-a-kind, they are fairly rare and are super, super-cool. John gave these as gifts to the cast and crew after we were done filming "Spider-Man 3." They are very handsome and feature raised Spidey webbing on the hood! Check out pictures online. He is donating 2 red mediums, 2 black mediums, 2 red larges, 2 black larges, 2 red extra larges and 2 black extra larges. Get 'em while you can and be the only one in your school or office to have one!

Remember, the numerous other rare and unique pieces will be offered in the auction which goes live Monday Oct 15th at www.sonypictures.com/auction Furthermore, we are proud to announce that a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Simon Wiesenthal Center, an "international Jewish human rights organization dedicated to repairing the world one step at a time." To learn more about the center please visit www.wiesenthal.com.

Until Next Time!

June 26, 2007 | 6:29 PM

Dear Friends,

I assume by now that you have seen "Spider-Man 3." It is my sincerest desire that you enjoyed the film as much as we enjoyed making it. Hopefully, via this website, you gained a unique insight into the process through which the movie was made, while obtaining an education on filmmaking as a whole.

I want to take a moment to thank you for reading my posts over the years and for watching the webisodes. Just as it has been my honor to carry a very small portion of the Spider-Man torch that has been passed down through the generations since Stan Lee and Steve Ditko created the franchise over 40 years ago, it has likewise been my honor to interact with each and every one of you. I often start out my posts with the salutation, "Dear Friends," and I mean this wholeheartedly.

Until Next Time!

Happy New Year from Grant Curtis
January 19, 2007 | 1:06 PM

Grant CurtisDear friends,

Happy New Year! I hope 2007 finds you healthy, prosperous and ecstatic on May 4th.

I wanted to take a moment and respond to the two main questions that keep appearing in our web log forum. The first one is whether or not there will be a "Spider-Man 4" and the second is confirming, or denying, the existence of four villains in "Spider-Man 3."

As far as whether or not there will be a "Spider-Man 4," I truthfully do not know as it has yet to be discussed. At this juncture in the post production process, in which we are working six and sometimes seven days a week, all of our time is spent making "Spider-Man 3" the best it can possibly be. To temporarily put the brakes on this project and discuss the feasibility of a fourth picture would do an injustice to the current installment. We didn't make "Spider-Man" knowing there would be a "Spider-Man 2," nor did we know at this stage in the "Spider-Man 2" post-production process that there would be a third film. I will say this though, as all of you who are fans of the comic know, we have barely scratched the surface in terms of all the classic Peter Parker/Spider-Man stories that have been spun by the Marvel storytellers over the years.

Now, concerning the number of villains in "Spider-Man 3," there are… three: Sandman, The New Goblin and Venom. I think some of the questions emerged because there are four forces that Peter has to deal with in this picture: Sandman, The New Goblin, Venom and the influence the black suit has on Peter. Each force represents a major obstacle Peter must overcome as he continues on his journey toward becoming a more well-rounded superhero and, more importantly, a better human being.

Hope you are doing well.

Cheers,
Grant Curtis

Grant responds to to your comments from his "Production Update" post
December 1, 2006 | 10:10 AM

Grant Curtis responds to your comments from the "Production Update" post...

I am really in a way...glad that it is not coming out tell May 4th because well we all want this movie to look good and i know we are all anticipating what Venom is going to be like, but this way the film makers dont have to rush anything and they can get things done right cause on May 4th when people are sitting in the theater watching Spider-man 3 and Venom is finilly shown on the big screen we all will and should be saying..."the wait was worth it" and I know it will be....thank you for making this movie. PS: I wouldnt have picked another directer for this movie...Sam Raimi was born to direct the Spider-man films...thank you for bringing the Spider-man franchise to life.

Kevin, I agree with you man. Thanks for the kind words. Hope you are doing well. Be safe and thanks for participating. Grant

Hey Grant. You guys get some serious props for making these movies. Anyway, my questions are two that I'm sure everyone asking. When can we expect some news on this mysterious 4th villian and when can we see a full blown pic of venom? Anyway, just wanna tell you you guys rock again and thanks!

Jimmy, Look to a future weblog for this answer. Be well. Grant

Hey man, wassup! I'm here just to give you an advice..... - you could, like in the Ghost Rider's blog, update this weekly. What you think?hun? This gonna be great. Thanks to talk to us... you are realy needed here!

Jick, Sorry I haven't been around lately, but its been crazy. I'll do my best to keep this updated as much as possible as I really like hanging out with you guys. Grant

4 villians? Is that going to be a 4-hour-movie?

Imperfect. Look to my next web log for some clarity. Thanks for the question. Grant

First of all thanks Sam for making the movie and well my question is when will we be able to an image of Harry as the new goblin

Arctic, Harry was in the trailer. What did you think? Grant

i hope u guys give us more still images of the characters i can't wait to see the movie my mom gets a bit annoyed because spider man 3 is all i talk about thanks SAM and every for making the movie i hope u guys decide to make a #4

Arctic, Thanks for the enthusiasm. I think you are going to be very happy when May 4th rolls around. Grant

SPIDERMAN ROCKS AND GRANT THANKS FOR THE BLOG

Lumy, You rock. Thanks for reading the web logs. Be well. Grant

I have heard rumors that the 4th villain is himself; while the symbiote is attatched to him. Is this true?

Sheldon, Look to my next weblog for some clarity. Thanks for the question. Grant

This movie better come out on May 4th cuz that's my birthday!

Eric, Then I think you are going to have a great birthday. Thanks for reading. Grant

Mr. Grant, what do you think of the script for this film compared to the other two Spider-Man films?

Meph, I think this script carries on the same traditions as the first two and is equally good. Peter Paker is such a great character that it's engaging to following his exploits. Thanks for the question and many thanks for reading. Grant

Sounds cool, Curtis. I hope you guys get it finish in time, and is it true that Sam is coming in to do reshoots or was that a rumor? Please reply to my question Curtis, I would really appreciated it. Thank you.

GreenieGobbie, We came back and did some additional photography that we always planned to do, but I would not classify them as reshoots. Thanks for the question and hope you are well. Sincerely, Grant

Dude i had the shivers and a nervous break down yesterday because i was excited about Spiderman 3! and its still 8 months away. i'm going to get a heart-attack when the movie comes out i really hope i live! But the longer the BETTER and this is going to be the BEST!! Keep up the good work... Puzzler_man...Out... :)

Puzzler_man, Be good to your ticker man. Thanks for the enthusiasm. We won't let you down. Grant

Thank you so very much Mr. Curtis for taking the time to clear up these false reports. How annoying to have to combat untruths that only divert your attention away from the business of actually making the movie. In my humble opinion, the only test audience approvals required are those on Mr. Raimi's team. You guys haven't skipped a beat yet and I'm confident that you will pass test #3 on May 4, 2007 with flying....er um....make that slinging colors....;) Go Web Go! Fly! :)

InsomnicFreak, Good to hear from you and thanks for the support. The good thing about all the reports is that people care about the movie. The unfortunate thing is that a lot of them are false. Hope you are doing well. Grant

Thanks again Mr. Curtis. I have another question. I don't know how much detail you can give away, but, Does Sandman actually have something to do with Uncle Ben's death or does the symbiote just mess with Peter's mind and make him hallucinate it? My guess is the former but there's been some debate about it.

I cannot answer that question outright. What did you think of the trailer? Grant

Man oh man, if I were the director of these films. . . .they would royally suck. Sam Raimi and all of you have done such an incredible job. Good Luck with Post! Quick question, does this script incorporate more of Spidey's wisecracks? I would love to see the wise-cracking funny-man Spider-Man from the comics.

We have some wise-cracking Spidey in the film and have some lighthearted, funny moments. Hope you are well. Grant

Thanks for updating! I can not wait for Spiderman 3!!!! I have a question, I am a big gamer and I love my spiderman and video games it almost makes me feel like spiderman. Have you seen anything from the game and is Sam envolved with the production of this Spiderman 3 game? Also I want to thank you for reading our comments it is great to know you read our comments, so thank you!!!!

Brandon, We have meetings and get updates with the game companies. I haven't seen anything yet, but in the past these games have always been top notch and I know they will not disappoint and have some exciting new features. Thanks for the question. Grant

Thanks for putting this rumour to rest.

Tim R, No worries man. Thanks for reading. Grant

I like just realized, Spidey 3 is going to be THE Best movie in a long while for me. You guys do a great job!

General Justin, Thanks for the kind words General and thanks for reading. Grant

i hope the movie is like 5 hours long that be cool and that way u could fit in 4 villans

Lumy, 4 hours is a long movie. You sure you want that? Grant

Grant thanks for the blog

Marvel, My pleasure. Thanks for reading. Grant

Hi, I have a question about Topher Grace / Venom. Topher isn't really a muscular or even bully guy like Eddie Brock / Venom is. So is Venom going to have a body-double?

Dayan S. Topher is better built than you might think he is and he worked out very, very hard to get ready for this picture. Thanks for the question. Grant

thats a great question Deyan S. i hope he does or that Grace bulked up for the part although it would be pretty cool to see a more lean venom anyways i think Topher Grace is great he is a great actor and he was so cool on That 70's show the only reason two of my friends watched the show was because he was so funny and cool

hey Topher if u read this or Grant tell him this ur so AWESOME glad ur playing the part can't wait to see the movie

Marvel, Thanks for the post. I'll tell Topher. Hope you are well. Grant

Yeah, I figured there was no way the movie could be screened when it is still this far away from being finished.

Calculator2006, We still got a long way to go man. Grant

Are the rumors of a forth villian true? John A.

Look for my next web log. Grant

There was an interview a while back in which James Franco reveals a "call for more action" by Sam Raimi. Does this mean that after original filming was finished Sam and Crew decided to extend the film beyond what was originally expected? If so, will the release date of the movie be pushed back?

Levi, We have not called for more action. This movie is action packed as is and the release date has not been pushed back. Thanks for the questions. Grant

Dear, Mr. Curtis i have a question mainly based apon the fact that Venom is my favorite Spidey villian of all so i was wonder, if he will be in this movie or will there be a fourth just for Spidey vs. venom or possibly carnage? and if u could would u seen a pic of Venom for me? if u can't i understand but i would love u have one before the movie. Thanks for ur time and i hope to see the movie on opening day it looks great! Keep up the good work!

Zakk, I don't know what the future may or may not bring for Venom, but I can guarantee you that he is in "Spider-Man 3." Grant

Hi, it's me again. I have two more questions. One about Venom and one about the mysterious 4th villian. But to be honest, I'm not expecting answers, because the questions are not bad ;D 1. Is Venom going to be like in the animated cartoon, where he could talk and think normally, or is he going to be like a real monster, full of hate and so on? 2. The 4th villian... I'm not sure if the rumor is true, but if yes, could it be Norman Osborne?! As we know, Norman Osborne had other abilities, not just super-strenght. He could also regenerate himself. That's why he returned and wanted to destroy Peter Parker / Spider-Man. Well, at least in the comics...

Deyan S. You have great questions, but I'd ruin part of the movie if I answered your questions. As always, thanks for reading and hope you are well. Grant

Dear Grant, The anticipation for this movie is so great, I never thought for a million years that a Spider-Man movie could work, let alone become the biggest movie franchise in recent history! Thank you for your efforts in bringing this character to life in such an entertaining way! ?That said, my question is ... why do you think there has been such an emphasis in Hollywood for turning comic-books into movies of late and what is it about the spider-man pictures that makes them the most successful in your opinion?... do you think that successful franchises, such as Spider-Man, have a negative knock-on effect on other studios which, ?aiming for a similar level of success, become less likely to take risks on original material? or do you think that the franchise is a positive thing for Hollywood? I'm sorry if it's a bit of a toughie but I though it'd be interesting to get a perspective from the guys that got it right! ; ) Can't wait until next May!!! Thanks Jimmy,

Really good questions. First off, I think Hollywood has turned to making comic book movies as of late because for the first time in history, due to the CG advances in the last 7 years, we have the ability to make them and make them well. Additionally, there is no denying that the comic book movies are doing really well at the box office - and this is a business after all. I think the Spider-Man movies are successful because we focus on Peter Parker first, his loves, this struggles, his fears, his triumphs, and then focus on the action. If you don't have a good story, you don't have anything.

I don't think that the success of franchises has a negative impact on the industry because at the end of the day you have to make a good story, franchise or not. You may have a great opening weekend, but if you have a mediocre story, your'e going to flame out in the second weekend. You can have a movie that opens at $25 million and still lose money. You have to have a movie with some legs and the story gives the movie its legs. It's all about story. Thanks for the great questions. Hope I've answered them, if not, write me back.
Grant

So we know that Topher Grace is Venom right? and there's the Sandman and the HobGoblin IS in this one right? It wouldn't be right without him. But who is the fourth villain? I heard bits not just from here that it is Mysterio...we'd all love to know. Rock the 3rd Movie!!!

Mike, Look to my next post for some answers. Thanks for reading and thanks for the questions. Grant

Since you have worked and been a part of these films, is such a question even conceivable to answer at this point in time? If these films have any dissapointing elements left to the fans, it's the fact they end. lol. Seriously though, after seeing the first one, you see it a million more times while waiting to see what happens next in the sequel. The sequel comes around and beats the crap out of the first; which feeds more of the excitment and story to fans, and then boom, it ends (of course) and we have to wait for the third installment to see what happens next. Thats why I was curious about the length, because when the story ends and we root, clap , and cheer, we realise...dang it...the story is over and we must wait. In the end I guess thats why patience is a very rewarding virtue. But speaking of rewards, our entertainment is your work. Mr. Raimi, yourself, and the filmmaking team work very hard to make these films great, and it definetly shows. You actually get to see the films birth and have a hand bringing it into this world. So that leaves me one more question. Money aside, what is the most rewarding element of your work? Now I will cease bombarding you with questions and take off. Thank you for the updates and taking the time to read what fans have to say. Peace :) -Lizardfreak

Lizardfreak,
Man, I like your questions. Bring them on. Still too early to answer your running time question though. The most rewarding part of my job is that I get to come to work everyday and help tell a story that so many people are invested in. And, I get to work with such amazing people. Did you know that Executive Producer Joe Caracciolo was the property master on "The Exorcist?" Did you know that special effects supervisor John Frazier was very influential in making the amazing footage you saw in "Speed." I work with some amazing people. It's Hollywood history and I get to experience it every day. I love it. Thanks for the questions.
Grant

If there's a test screening in London well... *jumps around like an ethusiastic puppy* Pick me! Pick me!

Luke, Good to hear from you man. Hope you are well. Grant

venom is one of my favorite villans in the spider man comics.

Jon, Thanks for reading. Hope you are well. Grant

Grant, People have been saying many things about who the fourth villian is, can you tell me who it is please.

Tyler, Look to my next post. Be safe. Grant

Hi Grant, thanks for paying attention to us, your blog is a great idea. i had questions about the music, but i didn't know where to ask them, so i do there. Will Christopher Young use the main theme created by Danny Elfman at the beginning of the first two movies? Or will he compose a new one? Has the work on music started? Thanks, hope you'll answer me

Tim, Danny and Chris Young are both working on the picture. We have yet to start actively working on the music, but we will start soon. Thanks for the questions. Grant

From what I've heard, the fourth villain will be Spider-Man himself. The symbiote takes over his mind and actions and carries out evil tendancies. Sure his strength is enhanced and what have you, but he is willing to actually kill a living being. Sure, Doc Ock returning would be a sweet treat. But if what I have heard is correct, Spider-Man being his own worst enemy makes him the perfect villain, peroid. The worst of it is, as we all know, is the symbiote finds a new host...Eddie Brock. The powerful uncontrollable monster that both Peter Paker and Spider-Man become never truly leaves, that entity rages on inside Brock. Whats worse than the Goblins curse? Whats worse than battling your inner demons? When those inner demons become a solid incarnation of evil that hunts you down while swinging through the city, or walking along the street holding hands with Mary Jane; and not even your senses or powers can save you.

Lizardfreak, Interesting post. Grant

this is for curtis will Spiderman 3 exceed the 2 hour mark?

Flint Marko, Don't know at this time, but thanks for the question. Hope you are well. Grant

KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK. EVERY TIME I THINK OF A QUESTION, SOMEONE BEATS ME TO IT . KEEP ON DOING THE GOOD WORK. William Lewis Sr.

Good to hear from you William. Hope you are well. Grant

i like the movie

Read, Thanks for the kind words. Grant

Grant, thanks for taking the time to read our posts! It's nice to know that someone so high up in the ranks is willing to touch base with the fans. I know I asked many questions back in July, but I'm really looking forward to learning more about the movie - not spoilers, but enough to keep me really excited to go see the film when it comes out. :) Thanks again!

Kevin, Thanks for reading and thanks for the great interaction. Grant

I really, really have to thank Mr. Raimi! In the comics Spider-Man always jumped around, threw his web and bounded enemies. That was his way to save the day. He rarely punched the **** out of the enemies. He was always the one who got beaten up. But in the first two Spider-Man movies. Oh that was really great! He fought so great against Doctor Octopus. I was really impressed by the whole fight, where they punched eachother while falling down. So Mr. Raimi, I really hope, that you're adding same fights to the third movie. Please don't make Spidey suffer. He shall make his enemies suffer! Thank you!

Envenom, We have some excellent, bone-jarring fights in the 3rd film. You're going to be pleased. Grant

First of all i "Thank You" SAM. For this great film and the previos Spiderman films. i have a question about the vllains. I dont think the movie will be 3 hours long and in such little time it will be impossible to get to know all the new characters. Just like in X3. they put too much charactter in one movie so the viewers didnt get to know that new characters so well. It was a great film but if the movie was a few more hours long. it would have been better.

Zahin, Thanks for the post. You bring about some interesting points. Thanks for reading. Grant

I heard a rumor that the ending of the movie was still up in the air... (I know that's not uncommon.) True? Endings can make or break a movie, and I think that will be especially true of this one. It looks so dark and depressing... In the comics I love watching Peter struggle (be it against a villain or with a personal dilemma)... he always digs down deep and finds the strength to prevail, and rarely looses his sense of humor in the process. His love for Aunt May and Mary Jane inspire him... along with his guilt ... So in this movie I would hate to see him betray MJ or do something really "evil"... his "struggle" typically stops him short of doing anything less than the right thing. And after the great emphasis on the love story (my favorite part - BTW - the emotion that makes the action exciting) I really want MJ and Peter to find their relationship is stronger for what they have endured. I want MJ's words to Peter at the end of SM2 to be tested and found to be REAL. It would totally SUCK for this movie not to have a triumph at the end. I want to be inspired again!

Captivated, I am very confident that you will find the "Spider-Man 3" story very inspiring. Can't wait to see what you think on May 4th. Hope you are well. Grant

I have to agree with Dan L - if there is a 4th villain it has to be Lizard - why else has Doc Connors been in the past 2 movies? Harry is the Green Goblin, he already has the costume.

Kennel, Thanks for the post. Hope you are well. Grant

Why should Lizard be an enemy in the third movie? He just hasn't a big meaning in the Spiderman-Universe. Yeah, I know, they said his name in the first movie, but that's also everything, I guess [And I hope] They also said Eddie Brocks name in the first movie and now he comes in the third one, so that's still open, but as I wrote it in one of my upper posts: If Mr. Raimi really wants to bind the story-plots, he is going to add Shocker [Because Spider-Man nearly killed him when he was manipulated by the symbiote] or he will revive Norman Osborne, because he also had the ability to heal himself. I have to say, I'm tired of these rumors. Some of them are also saying that Mysterio is going to be the 4th villian. Why should he do that?! Mr. Curtis it would be really nice, if you play "Mythbuster" again and just bust this rumor. Please, tell us: Is there going to be four villians and if yes, who is it? Thank you very much =)

Deyan, I'll do my best in my next post. Hope you are well. Grant

Really looking forward to seeing SM3 on May 4th with great patience. If the 4th villain is indeed a cameo of Bruce Campbell as Mysterio (fav villain) then hopefully we can see him developed for Spiderman 4 along with Lizard. Sandman looks cool from what I've seen so far and Venom should be fine aswell. All the best for Sam & crew

Damo, Thanks for the post and thanks for reading. Hope you are well. Grant

i can't wait till the movie comes out i think i am as exited as my kids

Erika, What did you and your kids think of the trailer? Grant

hello im so glad that sam has kept the same actors throughout the three movies and im really excited to see the third movie. lately marvel has been making a lot of comic films and some are kinda disapointing but i know you guys wont

Chad, Thanks for your confidence. Can't wait for you to see the film. Grant

Alright guys, I've been following this storyline for hte past 6 months, and I've read a toooon of interviews. People close to the movie have confirmed a 4th villain. there is a 4th villain definitely from what people close to the movie have said. Raimi also confirmed that Harry Osborne will NOT be the goblin. i repeat. Harry Osborne will NOT be the goblin ( i think hes going to realize his fathers evil and not sink down to it, but he may come very close- if Harry Osborne is a villain it would be Harry Osborne, not the goblin). The lizard seems to make the most sense because on Imdb it has a loooot of lab technicians listed on the cast list...it could also be mysterio because previously they have had a guy listed that said mysterio (rumored) on the cast list...he has been removed but i don't know if thatd be because of him being confirmed as not in it or due to the wishes of the directors to keep it off of their site.

Adam, Thanks for the post. Hope you are well. Grant

sorry to think right......ahead but is their gonna be a spiderman 4?, i really enjoy watching the action packed serious of the previous spidermans and i cant get enough! so will their be a 4?

Stooge, Thanks for the post. Check out my next web log. Hope you are well. Grant

How does one get into the movie business? It would be pretty cool to just help out on making a Spiderman 4... if not any movie.

Mrtn, Thanks for the question. There is no one path to take to get into this business. There are as many different ways as there are people who are working in the biz. I can say this, and I know this sounds like common sense, but you'd be surprised by the number of people who do not heed the following advice. When I travel outside LA and people ask me how to get into the business, the first thing I tell them is that they need to be in Los Angeles. They then tell me that they need to have a job here before moving. Well, that would be ideal, but 99% of the time, that is not realistic. It does happen, but not often. If you want to work in film/TV, come out to LA. Make some contracts, look in the trades which list films in the future and send in your resume to assist. But first and foremost, you've gotta pack up your car and move out here. I did and I did not have a job waiting. You gotta take the plunge. Be well. Grant

1st off, I'd like to say that I'm 27 & 1 of the millions of 'true' Spider-Man fans since childhood like Sam, not to mention the fact that my dream has always been to illustrate 4 Marvel. With all that said, I'd like to say that the Spider-Man franchise is the greatest comic to movie translation EVER! Toby is great. Please keep returnin' as Spidey! Now, 4 me, it would be nice 2 see more of webhead's superiority over numerous thugs Bruce Lee style except without the martial arts in sequals 2 come, like jumping up in mid air, webbing the head of 2 thugs in front while mule kickin' 2 behind, then web yanking the 2 webbed thugs into varietal more or even a supervillain behind, while dismounting into a cool stance, preferably facing away from the next opposition, with chin down, chest out, legs shoulder length apart, & head slightly turned, looking behind as if 2 say, ''Who's next?!'' & 1 more thing! I absolutly love the orchestrated theme played in the very, Very first theatrical trailer 4 Spider-Man 1 & can't

Gerald, Thanks for being such a true fan and thanks for the post. Very informative. Be well. Grant

I Was dying to just take look on new movie .I love it and i love New York

Sandy, Great to hear from you. Hope you are doing well. What did you think of the trailer? Grant

I don't see the logic in keeping this a secret. I mean it's not as if people will be less interested in seeing the movie - I know I can't wait regardless of who the villains are!

Greg, Good question. I'll try to address it in my next web log.

Hi.. I just love Spiderman since childhood.. I am egarly waiting for the third installment.. I know.. I am sure.. It'll not better or good then the previous one.. but it'll be more then our expectations.. All the best dude.. Wish u luck

Amit, Thanks for your kind post. Hope you are doing well and best of luck to you too. Grant

hi! I hope the best, in that movi, because the spideman it`s a true hero!!!!! SPIDERMAN SAVE US!!!!

Vick, Good to hear from you. Stay safe. Grant

Dear Grant, I heard that Venom is 1st going to appear in the last 30 min. of the movie and that they gonna feature more of Venom in the 4th movie. I hope this is true. ?Make the 3rd movie a Whammy!!!!?Excelsoir!!!!!!!!

Iluvspidey, Good to hear from you. This movie is going to blow you away. Thanks for the post. Grant

Spider-man 3 is going to be the final movie for this trilogy and i can't wait to see Spiderman facing Venom and Sandman with a little help from Harry Osborn, See you guys in 5/4/2007!!!

Robert, Can't wait for you to see it. Grant

Dear Grant, Say hallo to Paul Ottosson from his sister in Sweden. Hope he makes good sound again.

Ann-Christin, Sorry this has taken so long. I will indeed tell Paul hello. He's the best and we are in good hands. The sound is going to be incredible. Good to hear from you. Grant

I heard that one villian would be sandman, one would be venom, and possibly man-wolf.(Or if Harry Osbourne is being a hinderance....) The fourth villian to my knowledge would be Spiderman himself attatched to the symbiote. This will most likely make for an excellent film, with a great storyline. Sure this movie might run 2 hours 45 minutes long, or in an extreme case, 3 hours. But frankly I don't care as long as its good which it will be!

Angel, Good to hear from you. Hope you are doing well. Grant

this looks like an Excellent Flim, and Grant,Sam,and Toby you all have done it agian.?This should be the best one, ever yet, Witch Virsion of Venom ae you useing??God-Mode Venom or Ultamite Venom??i personaliy think Ultamite Venom is better, cuse he isn't all god-mode.?or combind the two.?and who are the villans for Spidey 4??whats that one going to be about??are you all coming Back to Comic Con Next year?

Ash, Good questions, but unfortunately I cannot answer most of them at this time. I don't know about Comic Con next year, but it is always such a good experience that I hope to be back one way or the other. Hope you are doing well and thanks for the kind words. Grant

I can't wait until the third movie is coming out! It is probably going to be the best superhero ever! Hey Ash I think that the theatrical trailer for spidey 3 is coming out on November 17, 2006. My guess is, i think the fourth villain for Spidey 3 is going to be the Lizard, which is Dr. Curt Connors. Plus i heard that they are only going to make 3 more spidey movies, so that totals up to 6 spidey movies. Good luck out there spidey fans and make sure u enjoy the third movie!!! LOL

Venom, Good to hear from you. Interesting screen name. Be safe. Grant

Let me get this straight, Venom, Sandman, Harry Osbourne's new Goblin, and possibly...The LIZARD? Oh boy, this should be an awesome spectacle for all of us out there waiting for SM3 to debut in theaters. Another thing I want to know is that if there's going to be any love-making scenes between Peter and Mary Jane? Oh,one more thing. If Lizard will debut in SM3, who will play him and what will he look like? A dinosaur-like villan, or something we have not yet seen before?

Alex, Answering these questions gives away too much of the story at this point, but thanks for the post. Hope you are doing well and can't wait to hear what you think on May 4th.

How is spiderman going to compete with 4 bad guys? do you know what would be a good idea?putting like another superheroe so spiderman can get some help. another good idea would be creating a new symbiote. you know what should happen in the movie?venom's symbiote should go inside of sandman or the new guy. in spiderman 4 if carnage is in it then venom should be in it to.

Christian, Thanks for your participation. Hope you are doing well. You have some very interesting ideas. Grant

I love the upcoming movie spiderman 3, its a great movie guys! And i love the villain venom, and guys u think venom will die in the end? Its a Mystery. And by the way there wont be a forth villain! Grant wat u think?

Aneesur Rahman, Good question, without a doubt. But, can't answer at this point, but check out my next web log for some clarity. Be safe. Grant

And by the way guys u all say there will be a 4th villain, and i guess it should be carnage. And Vick i think venom will appear in the starting cause when spidey tear off the black suit on top of the bell tower some of the bits fall on eddie brock, and then he become venom. And also spidey wont be wearing the black suit the whole movie! I remember when sm2 just came out i heard many rumors about sm3 having 3 villans. At that time the green goblin with one and the lizard was the second with the 3rd being a mystery. I do think that the lizard will be the 4th villian but i don't think it will play a big part in the movie because too many villians in the movie could just be a distraction and will take away from the movie. I love what Sam has done for the spidy movies but i don't believe there will be a 4th movie but maybe i'm just not trying to get my hopes up just to be let down :(

Patrick, Thanks for the post. I can tell you this, "Spider-Man 3" is going to blow you away and you are going to go on a ride as never before. Grant

I think the movie is going to be a hit.

AnglE, Great to hear from you. I cannot wait to see what you think on May 4th. You're going to have a blast. Grant

Spiderman 3 Is a Great Movie, I wait this for a new adventure of Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst (beautiful woman). The 2 movies before are goods and this with VENON is a dream do come true..... To infinite, and beyond! ..... jejeje..

CLAVDIO, Thanks for the post. Hope you are well. Sincerely, Grant

i can't wait

Donkey, Can't wait for you to see it. What did you think of the trailer? Grant

Dude! the tension is killing me i can barely handle and YET its still SO FAR Awaaaay!...?The anticipation is building... Spiderman 3 rocks like its getting better and better the closer we get to it. This movie IS... there's NO words to explain or describe what its going to be, its tooo goood! IT'S JUST, TOO GOOOD!!! cant wit till the new trailer comes out... To good... :)

Puzzler_man, Good to hear from you. What did you think of the trailer? Grant

wow sam... i don't know if you are going to read this but if do.... i woud like to know that i am spiderman's biggest fan and i think u are verry luky po work on it....?p.s. please listen to your hart not to the producters-?make the movie dark

Zlatan, Thanks for the post. I'll pass on your regards to Sam. Grant

I use to buy Spiderman comics at the corner drugstore when they were 12 cents and have to say that you all have stayed true to what I can recall. MMMS!

Link, Thanks for the great post. Hope you are well. Grant

The 4th villian is Black Cat, Felicia Hardy. So that's Black Cat, Venom, Sandman, and Green Goblin (Harry). Love the films, guys.

Stony White LV, Thanks for being such a fan and participating. Be well and stay safe. Grant

i would also like to see another trailer. the teaser didn't show too much. keep up the hard work, i want this film to be as good as posible.

Joe, Thanks for the post. What did you think of the trailer? Grant

Hi, Yeah, I think that Spider-Man 3 movie will be the greatest and darkest Spidey movies of all time than Spider-Man 2! Can't wait until the new theatrical trailer comes out before May 2007! Also, of course, watch the whole movie when Spider-Man 3 hits theaters on May 4, 2007! Hooray! That's it. Bye! MAN.

Man, Good to hear from you. What did you think of the new trailer? Thanks for the post. Grant

Thanks Grant for Creating this Outlet. I've grown up climbing trees, then as an adult rock climbing and all the while harboring childhood dreams of having the abilities of My Favorite Super Hero. My main concerns about the movie is I hope that you don't loose site of what made Venom the best villian Spiderman faced. Venom was grey. He was never a black and white bad guy. Venom could be related to. Keep that, and you'll have my vote. Venom sees himself as the protector of innocence, while his methods follow more closely to those of The Punisher. Venom is more like a rejected child, hurt, angry, confused, and vengeful. Onward, and Upward... Excelsior

Spider4Life, Great post. You really know Venom. Thanks for participating and I can't wait to hear your thoughts on May 4. Be well. Grant

hi first of all i would like to thank you and your team for such good movies and my auestion is when/where we be able to get spiderman3 pics i really agog to have his awesome pics and do u people plane for 4th one thanks again for entertaing us

Jawad, Thanks for the kind words. Sincerely, Grant

First off, love the first two movies.. great job! Secondly, if Venom is going to be present in #3 I'll be upset if in a following movie Carnage isn't a villian =p there is some food for thought people! make it happen Sam :)

Thanks for a great post BU82. Good to hear from you. Grant

Just wanted to say I represent a group of online players who play world of warcraft and there's about 200 of us from my guild eagerly anticipating this movie. We all just want to thank Sam Raimi for working so hard and sacrificing so much for this "Life's Work" and remind him that if he never does anything in his life that is good, he has done this and doesn't ever need to top anything else. You will be remembered for life and appreciated forever. You rock man Sam Raimi you are awesome.

Demonknightz, Great post. I'll pass it on. Grant

i know nobody will probably read this, there are just so many comments, but i wanted to just say basically what every person said on this thing with good reason, the spiderman movies are great, spiderman 2 was most definetly my favorite movie of all time, id like to also say this though, i was very happy that the hero finally got the girl and i dont think this movie should end tragically and to be honest that will be very dissappointing, i have a lot of thoughts in my head as to how the movie could have easily been destroyed, one is that spiderman is the 4th villain with the suit on and by the end he sacrifices his own life to save another, now though that is very heroic and touching, peter doesnt deserve death, hes done so much as this hero and hes saved so many people, you reap what you sew, not reap what you reap, also i watched the reporter woman's interview thing and she made it sound like the flirtation between her and spiderman might go somewhere which i very much hope not, that would ruin the movie and dissapoint anyone who likes spiderman movies, but its funny even though these things would be terrible, my biggest worry is i think venom should be horrifying, terrible, evil and ruthless, like oh i dont know, a villain should be, not funny. thanks guys the movies are all very good and i expect this one will be just as good (hopefully venom as well)

Austin Pruett, Thanks for the great, detailed post. You are a true fan, and thanks for the kind words. Grant

I cant imagine a better film franchise then this. Sam Raimi you have done two things i thought were impossible. 1, you made spider-man come to life in a way that just leaves me awestricken, and 2, you scared the hell out of me with the Grudge. Keep up the awesome work.

Cody, I'll pass it on. Hope you are well. Grant

Grant, Im really interested in the massive Spiderman production. Are you filming on the giant Sony stages in Culver city & has a backlot been constructed for this production? Thanks John

John Hynds, Thanks for the great question. Really appreciate it. Yes, we filmed a lot on the giant sound stages at Sony in Culver City. In fact, we always shoot the majority of the films on the stages at Sony. We also filmed quite a bit on locations in LA and New York and yes, we filmed on the back lot over at Paramount. Hope you are well, Grant

Mr.Curtis, I am really looking forward to seeing the movie in may cause that is when my birthday is. Only 20 days later right? :-) I knew when the second movie came out that the villan was going to be sandman. Strangly, someone told me and they were right, right? I want to say thanks from everyone who helped, was involved in, and reads this. You really brought this classic to life and you did great! U rock and thanx for the blog and movies. I am happily awaiting to see it. Good luck dude u are going to need it. Peace!

Nick Bergeman, You are very kind. Thanks for the encouraging words. U rock. Grant

i reckon its gonna be a great movie(num. 3)so take your time ,but try to make a fourth movie so there could be an ultimate battle between spidey, venom, and carnage.but please let the movie next year be the best damn spidey there is

Nathaniel, We're working hard to make you happy. Stay safe. Grant

i really want Mr. Sam Raimi and the production membrs as well as Grant Curtis to read my comment. i m from india and we have at least 3 hours movie and we really enjoy it becos the longer the better. also there is no way u can fit 4 villians in a 2 and 1/2 hour movie. do u know sometimes we have 3 and 1/2 hour movie and some movies are of 4 hours. so i request u to make at least 3 hour movie becos then the movie can contain more actions and more stunts and much more....... so plz i request all of the production team to think on my advice. and i m sure al the people who will watch the 3 hour movie will appreciate and like it very much.i will very much appreciate if u think on my advice

Harshit Tripathi, Thanks for your post. I don't think we have the material to make a 3 ½ hour movie, or 4 hour, but I thank you for your insight. Sincerely, Grant

I was wondering the time frame of spiderman 3. With resepect to the talented actors..I hope you have Peter Parker finish college in this film. As the cast ages so should the characters they portray. :)

Leonardo Alberio, May 4th, 2007. Hope you are well. Grant

Just wanted to tell all involved in creating the Spider-man movies, thank you so much! My four-year-old believes he is Peter Parker/Spider-man. He cannot read yet, so he only knows Spidey from the movies and re-run Spidey cartoons. It is a joy to watch his imagination at work. The things he comes up with...This is something that will be a part of him forever. I will certainly never forget this part of his life. I will keep his first torn and stained spidersuit until he is an adult, then I will return it to him. It is a part of who is is and who he wants to be. Peter Parker and Spider-man are terrific role models for him. (Yes, I know Spidey has issues, but that is what makes him so real.) ?We are looking forward to the new movie, even Drew (my son) is guessing on who will be in the movie. :) In fact, even his seven-year-old sister adds her two cents! He has been waiting since last Spring for #3, I hope he can wait another six months. When will the Spider-man 3 toys be released? He really wants an all black spidey suit! ?Thank you!

Drew's Mommy, Thank you for the very kind post. It is always great to remember who we make these movies for and why. Let me get back to you about the toys. I don't know that answer at the moment. Grant

Hello I am a big Spider-Man fan. I so can't wait till Spider-Man 3 comes out. I heard its gonna be one of your best. I am going to the midnight premire when it comes out, that is how I am a big fan. I also can't wait to see venom in the movie also. When are you going to put Carnage in one of your movies? Je is my favorite villian.

Supercooled, Thanks for the kind words in this post. Look for the answer to this post and others in my next web log. Grant

Mr. Curtis, I know that u r staying busy with all these entries and I dont know if u will have time to answer my question. But the question is: Why is it that Gwen Stacey is now in the franchise, being that it was said on the SM1 DVD about the MJ character, and how the "movie" MJ is a mix of the comic characters of MJ and Gwen? I dont understand how Sam would bring the Gwen character to life in the films after Peter becomes involved with MJ. They should have left that alone and went for the Felicia Hardy character, since I heard that she was originally in the script for SM2 but they took her out. I have been waiting for Black Cat to make her entrance in the films, but so far nothing. Now all of a sudden -- Gwen Stacey?!? It seems sort of backwards, as I know that Sam wants to be true as much as he can to the comics, this is not staying true. ?Also, I know that Harry dies in the comics and it seems that he might lose his life on SM3, I hope not tho. Oh and I heard the rumor that villian #4 was to be Mysterio, right at the end of the movie. ?I hope you can shed some light on these subjects for me. Please email me, thanks!

Bornaspideyfan, Thanks for the indepth post. I hope to answer some of these question in my next post. Be well. Grant

Hello I think I'm the biggest Spider-man fan in Romania because I've seen the first movie and the second movie on cinema over 20 times in a week, and because I have the entire collection of movies on DVD and VHS. My question is who is Carnage and is he going to appear in the third part of the movie?

Cristian from Romania, Thanks for the question. Hope you are doing well. Carnage is a villain similar to Venom. To learn more about him I would encourage you to surf the web and pull up some of the sites that feature his biography. Whether or not he is in Spidey 3, please look to my next web log for some clarity. Grant

sir, i hope venom will gonna be an allied fighter along with spider-man... because this character is my favorite hero than spiderman... i hope so... they gonna kill the ravage carnage... good luck!

Thanks for the post ravenom. Hope you are doing well. Sincerely, Grant

Hello, I'm a huge Spiderman fan, and I've read a lot on Spiderman and the comicbooks. I love Spiderman because i can relate a lot to him. I actually wasn't sure if I even wanted to see the third Spiderman movie because I thought the first two were based a lot on the Ultimate series (which I think is okay for a younger audience, but not so much for the original comicbook fans). I wish they had brought up Gwen Stacy from the very beginning because so much happened in the comicbooks because of her. I heard that the third movie is going to be based a lot more on the original comicbooks so I wait in extreme anticipation. And to answer bornaspideyfan, Carnage is the offspring (or spawn) of Venom when the symbiote reunited with Eddie Brock. The offspring bonded with Clettus Kassidy who was a serial killer.

Crystal, Thanks for the Carnage clarity & thanks for the great post. Sincerely, Grant

Grant Curtis responds to your comments from the welcome back post...

Welcome back, Mr. Curtis! So very glad that you're doing this blog again. I was just wondering the other day if it would happen, and I'm so happy to see it is. I was an extra for the '2' shoot in Chicago and met/spoke with Sam briefly; his kindness and intelligent conversation appears to be shared with all who work on these wonderful films, so thank you for being in that number, and here's to the next installment of the best superhero trilogy ever and your generous involvement and communication with us fans. Have a great day, and thanks again! ~Ethan Harper

Ethan, Thanks for the kind words and thanks for your work in Chicago. We had a very good experience in the windy city and were extremely pleased with the footage we got there. I hope you liked the trailer and I can't wait to hear your thoughts on the third installment.
Have a good weekend, Grant

I agree, Mr. Curtis, wtih InsomniacFreak... an awesome job is difficult to perform but so far the Spider-Man entity remains just that -AWESOME-... A huge thanks to you and to all involved. I will look forward to each of your posts.

Moon, Thanks for reading the web logs. I look forward to being able to spend more time with you guys. Have a great weekend. Grant

The trailer is awesome and I can't wait for the movie. But I'm a little concerned about multiple villians in the movie. I have a small fear that the Spider-Man movies may go the same way the Batman movies went.

B, You bring up an interesting point. I think the answer to this would make a great weblog. Thanks for the idea. Grant

I can't wait for this movie!! I'm just wondering (like so many others)when are we going to see the comic-con footage -- jtownpointguard

Spiderman1990_17, Thanks for reading the weblogs. Hope you are well. Grant

I love Spider-Man! I am the only girl I know who is obssesed! I love Spider-Man and i can't wait till Spider-Man3! Or Spider-Man 4! I have the wallpaper on my computer and I just bought a Spider-man3 poster that i hung up in my room! My room is all SpiderMan! I have a spider-man phone!

Spider-man#1 fan for life, Wow, you do sound like a big fan. Thanks for reading, thanks for responding & thanks for taking such interest in the film. Grant

Great to hear from you! The spidery team missed you. I hope the movie making has been good so far. The trailer out is really a sweet. - Heather

Heather, It's great to be back. The needs of the production and the needs of the book have taken a lot of my time, but I hope to have a lot more interaction from here on out. Have a great weekend. Grant

I Mrs Curtis! i never wrote anything about the other movies because they talk for themselves. i think spierman is the bigest hero of the comics. i colect spidey comics since my ten years old, i´ve watched the old movies, i konow everything about spiderman. i have a question: while you are making the 3 installement you are already preparing y 4th aren´t you?

Eduardo Carvalho, Thank you very much for your posting. This is a really good question that you asked and I think I should address it in a weblog for everyone to see. Hope you are well. Grant

Whoa~ cool! I haven't read anything about your previous blogs since this is the first time here. I'm going to the Wizard World con in Chicago, will anything of Spidey 3 be in display? Maybe I'll pick up a poster if it's available...?I wish you much success with "3", and I hope it blows the "Pirates 2" boxoffice record. hahaaa =) - Jason

Jason, Sorry I'm getting back to you a little late, but how was Chicago. I've never been to Wizard World there, just comicon in San Diego. Thanks for your post & your interest in the movies. Have a great weekend. Sincerely, Grant

I hope this movie ends up being as good as, if not better, the second one. I'm just a little worried about having too many villains in this film. Not to mention how Raimi was sort of pushed by Arad to add Venom to the film. I hope I'm proven wrong

Meph, As I posted to one of your fellow bloggers earlier, you pose a very good question that I will address in a weblog. Thanks for your interest, thanks for reading and have a great weekend. Grant

what about green goblin where does he come in?

Tuhy, I can't reveal storypoints in these weblogs, but I think you will be very please with the New Goblin's story arc in this picture. Have a great weekend. Grant

I would just like to say that spiderman 3 will beat all the films out in like the past 4 years. This could include LOTR, Star Wars, and Pirates 2. I cant wait for this film to come out!!!! It is going to become our national pastime!:)

Derrick, Thanks for bringing your excitement to the weblog. I think you are really going to enjoy this film and I only wish May 4th would come a little quicker. Have a great weekend. Grant

yea, I heart Spider-man...I'm so looking forward to seeing S3 and working on a support crew to help smash the Pirates record...not that it'll need it! Everything looks awesome & hope that this will be the best one yet!

Clarresa, Thanks for your support. It's fans like you that make this franchise really, really special. Thanks for reading and taking part in the discussions. Grant

this movie i hope will be coll

Adrian, I don't think you will be disappointed. Hope you are doing well. Grant

what will you do for the next nine months?

Kono, Right now we are busy working on the visual effects and editing the picture. Soon we start looping, working on the score, working on the international versions. We have so much work on these pictures it is mind blowing, but very rewarding. Have a great weekend and hope you are well. Grant

I knew this movie was coming out soon, but have yet to hear the story line.. My 5 year old is also wondering.

Jesse, I wish I could tell you the storyline, but that would ruin the movie. Hope you and your 5-year-old are well. Sincerely, Grant

heres a question that hasn't been asked... is it ending with a cliffhanger?

JG, Good question, but I'm afraid I can't answer that one at this time. Thanks for the question though and thanks for reading the web logs. Hope you are well. Grant

Hey Mr Curtis, great to see you around! Firstly, I'd like to know the way you're gonna answer all these questions. Are you going to answer them here in the blog one by one or just going to write another article with all the answers? Anyway, thanks for being here with us. Can't wait for the updates.

A Spanish guy, As you can probably tell, I've been a little behind with these answers, but I'm getting back into the swing. I'll answer each question that I can, one by one, but there will be a few that I think are more universal that everyone would like to see the answers to. For those, I'll address them in a web log. Have a great weekend. Grant

I freakin cannot wait for spidey 3! I think it may surpass 1 and 2 in box office sales! This is def the most anticipated comic or spidey film to date. The teaser trailer was awesome, short, but awesome. When the black symbiote jumps on Peter's arm, wow! and the sandman breaking out of the bank, omg! I wonder w/ 3 villains and 2 love interests, how long it will be? 2-3 hours? how can u put all that in just 2? Sam Raimi is a genius,so I have faith it will not dissapoint! I hope in the future we will see the Lizard and rhino!

Venomousderek, Man, thanks for the excitement. We are excited about bring this to you. You have a great question in regard to all the characters and I'm going to answer it in an upcoming web log. Grant

Hey, I'm a first time commentor. First of all the SM franchise the best superhero franchise ever, and I'm sure many fans would agree. Now for some questions:1. Like everybody else, when's the release of the new trailer.2. Is this a trilogy or can us fans have hope for more? Thanks

Anthony, What did you think of the trailer? Thanks for your comments and thanks for your 1st time posting. Sorry it took a while to get back to you. I'll be quicker next time. Sincerely, Grant

Hello Mr. Curtis, thanx for payin' a little attention to the fans!! I love the franchise and own the first two movies in special edition DVD. Looking forward for the big 3. My only question is when can we get to see the Comic-Con footage, or some sort of Venom reveal?? And I mean the actual Venom, not just Topher in mid-transformation. Thanx a lot.

Oscar Oranday, Thanks for reading the posts and being so interested. Hope you are doing well and I look forward to more interaction in the future. You guys make this so much fun. Grant

I think that it's going to be great,I can't wait!

Luis, Can't wait for you to see this thing man. Have a great weekend. Grant

I have no doubts that spiderman 3 we'll be the pinacle of all superhero movies to come. Spider man will indeed set the bar. Espeacially with the apearence of Venom and
